Spencer Park Project
Since the formation of NENA in June 2009, a popular idea has been the restoration, enhancement and development of Spencer Park to improve facilities and increase access. The plan is to restore the section which is currently south of Spencer Ave/Rd to a condition similar to its original design. The centre piece will be the restoration of the Edwardian pavilion which could include the provision of some community space. We hope to restore the boundaries, gates, planting and seating around the park. The intention of this scheme is to create a ‘quiet park’ area particularly for use by older residents and pre-school children.
In contrast the area north of Spencer Ave/Rd would be developed further to encourage greater usage and more activity. Its development would be targeted at older children and other adults. We would like to improve safety and security of this area whilst also improving facilities.
Finally, in support of the above we would like to look at local parking provision which is currently poor for park users. We would like to explore ways of generating greater community involvement in the park including the possibility of community wardens.
The process by which we bring this about will be in partnership with Coventry City Council. It will be highly dependant upon consultation with residents, other park users and potential park users. Before we open consultation it is proposed we develop a draft plan and open this to discussion. Once this process is complete we can explore which funding opportunities are more relevant to our scheme. It is hoped that this will be in the form of a large single funding bid.
